Reading Time: 2min | Sat. 23.07.22. | 22:00

Action continues on Sunday 24 July at Nyayo Indoor Arena.

Coach Juma Kent-led University of Nairobi (UoN) Dynamites needed an extra five minutes in their match against Eldonets to pick a win in the Kenya Basketball Federation (KBF) women's league.

Liz Okumu and Lynn Vanessa scored 14 points a piece to aid the varsity side pick a 69-48 victory in extra time.

The match had ended in a 45 points draw in regulation time and Eldonets were forced tk go ti war for the victory without the services of on e of their key players Stacey Ongwae who had fouled out of the match.

Dynamites scored 15 while restricting Eldonets to two in the extra period for the win.

"We had a good first half buy my players lost concentration in the second half and allowed Eldonets to claw back and force the overtime. I am, however, pleased with the final outcome. They gave their all in the extra period for the win," offered coach Kent.

His opposite number James Ndung'u blamed the result on lack of bench power

"My players gave their all. It was 100% effort for each one of them but we only had eight players and that meant some players had to be on the floor longer," said the Eldonets tactician who had the expertise of Kenya international Tyler Okari on his technical bench.

In another match, coach Ronnie Owino's charges Strathmore Swords picked a second won of the season as they saw off Africa Nazarene University (ANU) Panthers 65-53 in an entertaining encounter.

"We had this game. We had good runs but fatigue caught up with us and a few costly turnovers changed the game in Swords' favour and we could not recover.

We had a better game compared to the other matches we have played. For the first time we had a full squad of 12 and the substitutions helped us deliver a better performance.

We only need to work on getting the bench players to maintain the same level of execution as the starters and we will give teams a run for their money," offered ANU skipper Nicole Adhiambo
